Halo 2 finally overthrown as the most-played online game

Last week, Gears of War made it to the top of the charts in terms of online play on Microsoft systems. That's quite a feat, considering how Halo 2 has held the #1 spot with a near-perfect record since its release. Not even major Xbox 360 titles like Call of Duty 2 or Gears of War (which both performed very well) were able to take the top position.

Gears of War has been a highly anticipated game since it was announced. The game is largely popular do to its immense epic feel, and the attention to small details made in development.

Whether or not Gears of War can maintain its current spot or will drop back down behind Halo 2 remains to be seen.
