Sony announces Dual Shock 3 controller for PS3

Ladies and gentlemen, the rumble is back

September 20, 2007

At the Tokyo Game Show yesterday, Sony announced that it will release a new PS3 controller design, the Dual Shock 3.

The new controller is an update to the SIXAXIS controller, which incorporated new tilt-sensing technology into the PlayStation controller model, but sacrificed vibration feedback to do so. When this announcement was made, there was a public outcry to save the vibration feature. At first, Sony said the vibration could not be incorporated into a SIXAXIS controller, since it interfered with the technology.

Apparently, they went back to the design board. The Dual Shock 3 features the SIXAXIS motion technology, but brings back the beloved vibration feature.

The controllers will go on sale in November in Japan, and are expected to be in the hands of North American and European gamers next Spring.
