Nintendo Wii continues to dominate Japan

Sales are 4 times that of PS3, Xbox 360 is even further behind

October 2, 2007

The Nintendo Wii continues to lead sales in Japan with a four-to-one lead over Sony. According to industry analyst Enterbrain, Nintendo sold about 1.6 million Wii consoles over the past six months.

Compare that to just over 385 thousand PlayStation 3 consoles sold during the same time frame by the company's domestic rival.

The innovative design of the Nintendo Wii has caused it to be a hit among casual and hardcore gamers alike, and the system is doing well worldwide.

The Xbox 360, while very successful in its native North America, is a distant third in Japan. Microsoft's console sold only 122,565 consoles in Japan during the past six months.

The Nintendo Wii was originally released in November of 2006 and was quickly sold out during the holiday season. Some reports say that consumers may again expect shortages as the Nintendo Wii remains a popular item.
