Xbox 360 Arcade officially released

Microsoft unveils, launches new packaging for its home console

October 23, 2007

"Officially" is an operative word, here, since some stores began selling the new Xbox 360 package over the past two weeks. But today, Microsoft officially launched its new Xbox 360 Arcade packaging of its popular game console.

This low-cost offering does not include a hard drive, but instead carries 256 MB of internal memory, allowing players to store their profiles and some game data without a memory card. Also unlike the previous Core version, the Arcade package comes with a wireless controller.

The Xbox 360 Arcade includes five full games from the Xbox Live Arcade service: Uno, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, Boom Boom Rock and Pac-Man Championship Edition.

The console also features an HDMI connector, which only recently started appearing on the console.

The new system arrives just in time for the holidays, priced at a competetive $279 U.S.
