Release: 2003
The Game Boy SP is a repackaging of the Game Boy Advance hardware in new casing. The new design features a flip-up screen, and a sleeker feel. Added features include an integrated back light and a rechargable lithium-ion battery.
The new battery can last for up to ten hours of continuous play with the light on, or eighteen hours without. It takes about three hours to fully recharge it.
The Game Boy Advance SP, like the original GBA, can still play original Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.
You can get a Game Boy Advance SP here.
One annoyance with the Game Boy Advance SP is the lack of a headphone jack. This was removed to keep the GBA SP model compact. If you want to use your headphones, you need an attachment.
These power adapters allow you to charge and use your Game Boy Advance SP on the road. They plug right into a car power outlet (or cigarette lighter). Order one here..
This GBA attachment, which allows the playback of video, music and ebook files (which are imported from a computer), supports most standard media file formats, such as mpeg, avi, mp3 and wav. The files are converted into a special format and stored on a Compact Flash memory card. So far, the GBA Movie Player has only been released in Asia.
