Release: November 10, 2005 (South Korea)
Also known as: GPX2
The GP2X is a handheld gaming devices from South Korean developer GamePark Holdings. The GP2X is the next generation of GamePark's previous device, the GP32.
In addition to gaming, the system plays video and music and can be used to view images.
The GPX2 is powered by a Dual-core pair of 200MHz processers and uses a Linux-based operating system. The open-source approach to the GPX2 has helped it gain popularity in contrast to the major brand-name handhelds from Nintendo and Sony. This has also made it a popular platform for emulation, allowing games for other systems to be played on the device.
The device also features a TV-out capability allowing games to be played on a larger display.
The GP2X had sold over 30,000 units within its first year.
