Release: December, 1979
aka: Sears Tele-Games Super Video Arcade
and RadioShack TandyVision
Atari was king. The 2600 was still the top gaming system out there, by far. Mattel Toys had wanted a piece of the gaming pie since 1976, and in 1979, they made it happen. The Intelligent Television was born. The Intellivison was marketed to be better than the Atari 2600. Their whole system came up late, so they wanted to loosen Atari's grip on the market before it was too late. The graphics were advertised to be the best.
To increase the Intellivision market, the system was also released by Sears and RadioShack under different names.
A keyboard component was designed to attatch to the original system. It would transform the Intellivision into a computer system, with more capabilities. Due to high costs, production was stopped. Only four thousand units were produced.
This attatchment, when used with Intellivoice games, would play humanlike voices during gameplay.
