Release: May 1990
The Shin Nihon Kikaku Corporation (SNK) released the Neo-Geo cartridge based system in 1990. At the same time they released an Arcade console.
The Neo-Geo featured a new device, a memory card. This allows players to save their progress onto a special card. With the Neo-Geo, players can continue their game on a home system, or on an arcade system.
In 1994, the Neo-Geo CD was released. This single-speed CD reduced the price of games, but took a long time to load into the system. In Japan, the CDZ (double-speed) was released to decrease loading time. This enhancement never made it overseas.
This feature allows two Neo-Geo systems to be linked together. Multiplayer games can be played on two TVs.
Single-speed CD ROM drive.
Double-speed CD ROM drive to save loading time. Only released in Japan.
