On October 28, 1998, The Neo-Geo Pocket was released in Japan. Before bringing it to North America, SNK redesigned it, adding colour. It features a 2.6 inch LCD screen.

The Pocket Color also includes the Pocket Menu, which includes a world clock, a calendar, a horoscope generator and an alarm. The Pocket Menu can be used when the system is turned on without a cartridge.

SNK closed its North American and European offices in the year 2000, ceasing distrubution of the system.
