Sony PSX

Sony PSX

Release: Late 2003 (Japan), 2004 (North America, Europe)

On May 28, 2003, Sony announced that it would release a new system. The PSX has the ability to run PlayStation 2 games and DVDs. It also features a slot-loading DVD-write drive, a 120GB hard disk, a TV tuner and an ethernet adapter.

Sony will be marketing the PSX as a high-end piece of electronic hardware; Sony's Home Electronics Division will be in charge of the product's marketing, instead of Sony Computer Entertainment, which handled the PlayStation and PS2.

Although unconfirmed, future online services for the console may include downloadable movies and music. Also, the system, which has yet to be priced, has the necessary hardware to record TV broadcasts or other Audio-Video input (such as from a camcorder) onto DVD.

The key features of the PSX system are:

  • PS2 Game Compatible
  • DVD-R/RW recording
  • Satellite TV Tuner
  • Broadband Network Adapter
  • Internal Hard Drive for movie, music and download storage
  • New remote control (Not compatible with PS2 Remote)
  • Built-In video and image editing software
  • USB port, PS2 Memory Card Slots, Memory Stick Port, Controller Ports
