Zeebo

Release: July 2009 (Brazil)
November 2009 (Mexico)

The Xbox 360

Zeebo is a Brazilian-developed game console developed by Tectoy and Qualcomm. The console was first released in Brazil in the summer of 2009, and in Mexico later that year. The Zeebo is aimed at developing markets and will later appear in China, India, Russia and elsewhere. The Indian release is planned for 2010, and a Chinese release is set for 2011.

Zeebo will operate entirely on digital distribution, rather than using physical media for its games. The system will use wireless 3G and Edge networks to connect to the Internet. Tectoy says it has worked out arrangements with providers to connect Zeebo systems without additional fees for consumers.

Investors in the Zeebo project also include Capcom, Electronic Arts, Activision, Namco, Sega and id Software. Games such as Quake, Sonic Adventure, Need for Speed Carbon, Prey and FIFA 09 are already lined up for the console.
